What is the Maklaus Mini-roll Automation Accessory?
Mini-Roll Automation is an accessory designed for RES-UNI stretch film automatic rewinders which allows you to automate the production process of mini-roll reels. Mini-rolls are particular stretch film reels of various widths and lengths, obtained by longitudinally cutting the material during rewinding (generally starting from a 500 mm wide mother roll).
Thanks to this new accessory it is possible to obtain various advantages that have a significant impact on the production process. To clarify and describe the benefits of production with Mini-Roll Automation accessory, let’s make a comparison with the traditional mini-roll production method.
How the traditional mini-roll manufacturing process works
Without the Mini-Roll Automation accessory, the production of mini-rolls involves the use of cut-to-size or pre-cut cardboard cores, onto which the material is rewound after being cut according to specifications.
The operator manually loads the cut cardboard cores onto a supporting frame made of aluminum. This aluminum profile holds the cores into position during rewinding.
Then, the operator places the carboard cores inside the machine carboard cores hopper.
RES-UNI unwinds the material starting from a standard mother roll and the installed Mini Roll accessory cuts the stretch film to the required size. After that, the machine rewinds it onto the cut cardboard cores, and unloads the finished mini-roll reels onto its indexing table. The cycle is now finished, and another set can be produced.
At this point, the operator extracts the aluminum profile from the finished reels and proceeds to reintroduce it into the production cycle, by putting the new cardboard cores onto the profiles and placing them back inside the hopper. The loading-unloading operation is carried out manually by the operator “chasing” the machine. The processing speed is given both by the quality of the material and by the operator’s ability to quickly perform this operation
How the mini-roll production process with Automation works
Taking advantage of the Mini-Roll Automation module installed downstream of the RES-UNI, the operator only takes care of loading regular non-pre-cut cardboard cores inside the Mini-Roll Automation hopper and unloading finished mini-roll reels from the unloading cradle.
The Mini-Roll Automation is equipped with an in-machine cardboard core cutting system consisting of a motorized rotary blade device. It is set to the required width before starting the production and allows standard cardboard cores to be cut during normal processing.
Thanks to this accessory, you will get incredible advantages, which will totally facilitate the management of the production chain. For example:
– Cycle time reduction
– Increased productivity of RES-UNI
– Reduction of manual activities with low added value
– Optimization of cardboard cores purchase, transport, and storage costs
